Tapping vs. EFT: What’s the Real Difference?

If you’ve read any of my articles, you’ve probably seen me mention something called Tapping or EFT. And if you’ve found yourself thinking, “Wait, what exactly is that?” you’re in good company. Most people have no clue what it means at first.

Let’s break it down.

EFT (short for Emotional Freedom Techniques) is a simple, powerful method that helps you release emotional blocks, like stress, anxiety, fear, or that general “blah” feeling that won’t go away. Some people call it Tapping because, well, you literally tap on certain points of your body. (No, not tap dancing. And no instruments required.)

Now here’s where it gets interesting: EFT is actually an umbrella term that includes several tapping-related techniques, things like Matrix Reimprinting, Picture Tapping, and even something called Quantum Tapping. Each version has its own rhythm, but the goal is the same, to calm the nervous system and reset how your brain responds to stress.

There’s also a more traditional style of tapping, rooted in Qi Gong, which I teach as well. It involves gently tapping all over your body, from your head to your toes, no talking necessary. Just good energy moving. Fun fact? Clinical research shows that healthy cells have a higher electrical charge than unhealthy ones. And tapping your body creates tiny electrical charges on your skin (a science-y thing called “piezoelectricity”) basically lighting up your body in a good way.

So, here’s the short version:

Qi Gong Tapping = Full-body energy boost, no words.

EFT Tapping = Specific points, plus spoken phrases to help clear emotional gunk.

Since 2010, I’ve been helping clients release their WAFFLES—Worries, Anxiety, Fears, Frustrations, Lethargy, Exhaustion, and Stress®. Most people come in a little skeptical (and sometimes a little desperate), wondering if tapping and talking about their stress out loud can really help.

It can. In fact, studies have shown EFT can lower cortisol (your body’s main stress hormone) by 42% in just one hour. That’s not just impressive—that’s faster than most prescription meds.

Now, confession time? EFT may be the worst business model I’ve ever used because once clients learn how to do it, they don’t need me anymore! They walk away feeling lighter, clearer, and totally equipped to handle their own WAFFLES from here on out.

Which is exactly the point.
